USA and Mexico battle to a 0-0 draw in Mexico City
MEXICO CITY – The United States Mens National Soccer Team battled Team Mexico to a 0-0 draw at Estadio Azteca on Thursday March 24th.
As we in the media sat in the upper sections of this famous stadium, the US men faired well against the Mexicans, holding them to a draw and gaining a valuable point in the CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying Tournament.
In these final three matches, Team USA now faces Panama in Orlando this weekend, and Costa Rica on March 30th in Costa Rica.
USA, Canada, and Mexico are on to of the current group, while Costa Rica’s win over Canada on the same night put them in 4th place, only 3 points behind Mexico.
Both teams had their chances in the tense but physical match. Christian Pulisic took a huge part of the Mexico defenses attention, was denied a goal in the first half. Pulisic and had the chance of a lifetime opportunity, but his shot was saved by Guillermo Ochoa.
Team USA battles well, and did not let the 7,000 ft altitude of Mexico City effect their play.
In the second period, Pulisic put on a clinic, starting from the US side, and weaving through 6 El Tri defenders, getting a shot on goal that had no result.
He made the moves seem pointless when asked about the play.
“Well, all of that didn’t lead to a goal, so it doesn’t really matter” said Pulisic.
The draw makes Sunday match vs Panama in Orlando huge.
The US can qualify for the cup with a win over Panama and a Costa Rica loss or draw. If the US Draws, Costa Rica would have to lose for them to qualify on Sunday.
The US travels to face Costa Rica for the final match of the tournament.
